My ‘go-to’ resource is Shadow’s breeder, Jolanta Schubert who gave us the privilege of guardianship over Shadow. She is the pioneer for the Bohemian Shepherd breed in America – bringing in the first mating pair and is the expert on all matters Bohemian, traveling back and forth to Czech Republic and other European countries to learn all she can, and then sharing her knowledge so generously with the rest of us! For those interested in ‘meeting’ the Bohemian, Jolanta has penned the only U.S. Bohemian reference book entitled ‘The Gift of Seven.’ She talks about her journey bringing this beautiful breed to America and living life with them. Bohemian Shepherd Club of North America (BSCNA) is an excellent organization serving the Bohemian community. For newcomers, they offer a very detailed and efficient handbook that provides information on required paperwork, standards, health issues, genetic testing, registration requirements, breeding restrictions and guidance, and litter registration requirements. Embark offers numerous different types of DNA tests, some focused on health, breeding, and other factors. It can be a useful tool to identify potential health risks early on, plus to determine the breed and age of your dog (if in doubt). For more information: Embark
